Mulled wine is a winter hot drink made with wine, lemons or oranges, and various spices such as clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, star anise, allspice, and ginger can be used. Interestingly enough, all scents and aromas which we can feel in mulled wine are enhanced aromas of wine itself.
What spices you add to this mulled wine depends on tradition of each country. The most common are cinnamon, clove and anise. And it’s not surprising that exactly these components are used to enrich most popular winter hot beverage. Cinnamaldehyde from cinnamon reveals antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal capabilities. Eugenol from clove which brings strong aroma and spicy taste can be used as anaesthetic. And, finally, trans-anethol from anise was proven to display antibacterial and antifungal activity. In some cultures it’s common to add ginger and citruses which also adds healthy effects with limonene from citruses and zingerone and shogaol from ginger. These components bring anti-inflammatory and immune stimulation effects. That is why mulled wine has been helping us warm up and stay healthy during cold winter for centuries.
We prepared the special mulled wine with limonene, eugenol, сineol, trans-anethol, cinnamaldehyde, shogaol, and zingerone. All of these molecules we used for this textile design. Find them all on our napkins or tablerunners.
